NO ONE WILL SAVE YOU (2023)
A new alien invasion film has arrived from 20th Century Studios on Hulu and while it doesn't reinvent the wheel, it takes enough risks to make it fresh and thrilling.
Taking a major risk, making a movie with only one single line of dialogue, writer/director Brian Duffield has crafted an engrossing thrill ride. By focusing more on the physical drive for survival, Duffield is able to showcase his heroine’s adrenaline-fueled drive for survival through breakneck action and bone-chilling thrills.
Kaitlyn Dever stars as the sole lead, Brynn, who has found herself alienated from those around her. Seemingly driven out of local society because of a mysterious event that happened in her past. She lives her humble existence in her deceased mother’s farmhouse. When an alien invades her home, she is thrown into a terrifying race for survival.
Dever may have a tough job leading the entire movie but she makes fast work of getting the audience to trust in her taking us on this journey. Whether she is hiding from her extraterrestrial invader or fighting back with whatever she can find in the moment, Dever is a blast to watch.
As previously mentioned, there is only one line of dialogue in the film, which fits the film very well. Facial expressions and body language are often overlooked in modern cinema and it is refreshing to see a return to the simplicity of the human experience without spoken word.
So grab your favorite scary movie lover, lock the doors, and pull the blankets up to your chin because this is one of the best thrill rides in recent memory. You may just find yourself peeking between your fingers and jumping in fright, more than a few times.
